Yin/Vin

Yin/Vin

These practices are a beautiful balance between yin and vinyasa yoga.  The first half of class is dedicated to yin poses that are more gentle and held for a longer period of time.  The second half of class follows a typical vinyasa flow, where you will be moving breath to movement between postures and leading to a peak pose.

Yogi Squat (34 minutes)

This yin/vin practice is really focused on your overall mobility.  This flow includes a lot of hip stretches, which are key to feeling your best.  Also, plenty of the poses included in this practice are fantastic for your low-back and spinal area!  Just a great all-around practice.

Suggested props: block and blanket

Suggested music:    35 min- Yin/Vin

Plantars (25 minutes)

This yin/vin practice is short, but it targets some areas that really need some love.  The yin portion of the practice helps to stretch out the quads and hamstrings that tend to get tight due to all the sitting in our day-to-day life.  Then we transition into a vinyasa flow that keeps those muscles warm and opens up the chest.  And of course, we show some love to the soles of the feet– it’s one of those hurt so good stretches that definitely should be included in your regular practice!

Suggested props: blocks, strap, bolster

Suggested music:    25 min- Yin/Vin

Skandasana (40 minutes)

This practice is focused on low-body mobility.  We start with a yin portion that helps you to settle into practice while opening your chest and hips.  Then, we transition into more movement with the vinyasa portion of the practice.  This is where we really get into some hip mobility and help stretch out the hamstrings.  Definitely a practice you’ll want to keep in your regular rotation.

Suggested props: block, blanket, bolster

Suggested music:    40 min- Yin/Vin

Standing Splits (43 minutes)

If you have been spending too much time sitting down, whether it is for work, travel, or a good ol’ movie marathon– this practice is for you! This flow starts by giving some attention to the low-back and hips with gentle yin shapes.  Then, we get into the vinyasa portion that gives some serious love to the hamstrings.  Guaranteed you’ll end this practice feeling better than when you started.

Triangle (30 minutes)

This yin/vin flow will feel absolutely wonderful to help open up your chest and strengthen your low body.  Be sure to make some time for yourself to check this flow out whenever you’re feeling a bit tight in your back– your body will be sure to thank you!

Wind Down (44 minutes)

This yin/vin flow is designed specifically to help you wind down after an intense or stressful day.  The vinyasa part of the flow comes first, which gives a nice transition to start to slow your body and mind down without feeling too jarring.  Then, you get to settle into some yin poses to help you fully relax.  The perfect flow when you need to leave the stress of the day behind and reset.

Wheel (34 minutes)

This yin/vin flow is a really nicely balanced flow.  The yin portion will help open your hips and release tension in the low-body.  Then the vinyasa portion includes some really beneficial backbends.  It’s a win-win!

P.S.- Don’t let the picture stop you from doing this flow!  Even if full wheel isn’t in your practice, there are alternative poses offered and lots of poses building up to it that are so so good!

Bound Side Angle (26 minutes)

This yin/vin flow is quick and nourishing for the entire body.  The yin portion is nice and relaxing, but does a great job of preparing your body for the vinyasa flow.  The vinyasa portion is a simple series that feels extra nice for stretching out and supporting your low body.

This flow starts with some really gentle yin shapes to help your body settle in.  Then, the second half of the flow helps to open your chest, strengthen your spine and hamstrings.  This practice is one you'll want to revisit each time you feel you've been slouching forward a bit too much!

Tree (30 minutes)

This flow starts with some really gentle yin postures and a brief breathing exercise to help relax your entire body and mind.  Then, we move into a really well-rounded vinyasa practice.  Use this time to connect with your breath and mind, move your entire body, and work on a bit of balance (always needed– either in yoga or in your life…).

Sun Salutation B (29 minutes)

This flow falls into the “moving meditation” category for me.  Start your practice with some yin postures to help you deeply stretch and relax, then move into a repetitious series of Sun Salutation B.  This practice is a great way to start your day because it begins in such a gentle manner and then builds energy through the end.

Warrior II Dance (40 minutes)

Give your body a little extra love with this full-body flow.  This practice starts with a vinyasa flow, then settles into some relaxing yin postures.   The warrior dance is a familiar sequence that will help strengthen your lower body and core without feeling too intense.  Strength building AND relaxation? Yes, please.

Sun Salutation A (31 minutes)

This mellow flow could be classified as a “moving meditation,” so if you struggle to meditate because you get antsy (or haven’t even wanted to try meditation because of that), this flow is perfect for you.  The first half of practice focuses on yin postures, and then we move into rhythmic sun salutation A series.
